Alene Bailey has been playing with clay for as long as she can remember.  A ceramics class in high school launched her career when she fell in love with the potter’s wheel.  After majoring in Fine Art at Brigham Young University, Alene sold her porcelain and stoneware works at art fairs and galleries in the Mountain West before taking time off to be a full-time mother.  With her five children now grown, she has resumed her focus on ceramics.

Alene is drawn to the placidity and endless possibilities that clay holds.  Her pieces are ‘one of a kind,’ and careful consideration is given to their shape, weight and finish.  She is currently exploring *Raku firing techniques.

*Raku is a firing process that involves removing pots from the kiln while they are still glowing hot. Raku produces extraordinary results, which are not always predictable. The mixture of different temperatures and a broad range of chemical elements make Raku an ideal medium for those willing to release control of the results.
